Cord Drops Benefits

Quick Equipment Connections
Qualified maintenance workers can quickly connect or disconnect welding machines, motors, and other equipment in complete safety. Removing the plug from its receptacle visually verifies the circuit has been deenergized. The dead-front safety shutter on the receptacle prevents exposure to live parts, enabling full compliance with NFPA 70E without having to wear cumbersome PPE.

Safer Busway Disconnections
A traditional overhead busway connection presents unnecessary elements that can be eliminated by utilizing a MELTRIC cord drop.
With MELTRIC Switch-Rated plugs and receptacles, there's no need to suit up in PPE, or use a manlift to verify switch deenergization via voltage testing. The push-button deenergization of a MELTRIC Switch-Rated device on a busway provides visual verification of deenergization on the spot. Additionally, the plug can be easily locked out and tagged out with the addition of a locking hasp or lock inserted into the built-in LOTO provision.

MELTRIC Eliminates Arc Flash
Drawing an arc during plug removal is an inherent hazard with traditional pin and sleeve and twist type devices. After operating the disconnect switch using a "hook stick," a worker still needs to verify deenergization with pin and sleeve or twist type connectors. Exposure to live parts and arcing dangers exist, so PPE should be worn and arc boundaries established.
In comparison, MELTRIC Switch-Rated devices are safe to make and break under full load for both resistive and inductive loads. A built-in arc chamber eliminates arc flash hazards at disconnection. A dead-front safety shutter protects users from contact with live parts.
MELTRIC Switch-Rated devices meet the NFPA 70E definition of "Normal Operation." There's no need for PPE or addtional deenergization verification testing.
