Franklin, WI—MELTRIC recognizes the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) Safe & Sound Week this week, Aug. 13-19.

Created to bring awareness and understanding to the value of safety and health programs in the workplace, OSHA’s nationwide event focuses on collaboration between management and workers to establish and maintain a systematic approach to finding and fixing workplace hazards.

As a leader in electrical safety, MELTRIC advocates for safe work environments free from electrical hazards. The company supports workplace electrical safety through compliance with the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

Used by OSHA and the courts in workplace injury investigations, NFPA 70E is the primary resource and guide employers follow to establish and maintain compliance with OSHA’s electrical safety regulations. Failure to comply with NFPA 70E standards may prove costly to employers through fines, lawsuits, and other expenses, if injury occurs in the workplace.

NFPA 70E addresses safety-related work practices, maintenance requirements, and administrative controls necessary to protect employees from electrical energy hazards. Key elements of the standard include:

• Electrical safety program creation and documentation to direct employee activities in a manner appropriate for different voltage, energy level, and circuit conditions.

• Risk control method implementation, using a hierarchy which indicates eliminating the potential hazard should be the first priority, while using personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect against it as the last line of defense.

• Establishing employee training programs so that workers understand electrical hazards and the safety-related work practices and procedures required to provide protection from the hazards.

MELTRIC encourages all employers to read, understand, and implement the safety-related information included in NFPA 70E.

Access the full NFPA 70E standard on the NFPA website.
