MELTRIC offers a wide range of Multipin plugs and receptacles that provide a convenient and reliable means of connecting multiple circuits and/or control and monitoring signals through a single device.
Better contact technology and materials provide high conductivity connections that hold up in harsh conditions.
The contacts used in MELTRIC's Multipin products vary from range to range, but are all designed with the same basic technology to provide consistent and reliable connections for thousands of operations
Spring-loaded butt contacts ensure and maintain optimal contact pressure. The impacts of wear and manufacturing variations that affect pin & sleeve contact performance are eliminated.
Silver-nickel and silver contact materials provide and maintain excellent conductivity, even in harsh environments like wastewater facilities, aggregate mining and loading docks. Their electrical properties do not degrade over time like the brass contacts used in most other types of plugs & receptacles.
For the user, this means consistent quality connections, the elimination of contact failures, reduced maintenance, and the lower life-cycle costs.
Meltric electrical contacts are backed by a 5-year warranty
MELTRIC Multipin devices allow users to safely and efficiently connect multiple loads as well as control and monitoring signals in a single space and cost-efficient device.
The ratings and capabilities of the contacts in MELTRIC Multipin devices provide great flexibility in what can be connected through a single device. The potential combinations of power and control are countless. Here are a few examples:
A single DN20c hp rated 20 pin device could be used to power an on-board trailer unloading system with three 3 hp conveyor motors, a 15A lighting circuit, a load monitoring system to indicate completion of unloading, and a pilot circuit to detect proper connection prior to energization.
A DSN24 may be used for multiple 4-20mA current loops for process control along with powering numerous small process loads up to 7.5 A each for non-current interrupting applications, or 2A for current interrupting.
This capability helps reduce equipment cost by minimizing the number of connectors required and the panel space required to mount them. It also reduces complexity and time required when equipment needs to be connected or disconnected for maintenance or on-site commissioning.
Most MELTRIC Multipin devices are available with a self-ejection option that minimizes system damage if trailers drive away from docks without disconnecting.
Damage to equipment can be substantial and can result in unsafe conditions if trailers are driven away from loading docks without removing the connectors used for power and control of on-board unloading systems. MELTRIC's optional self-ejection system helps to minimize this problem by automatically ejecting the connector when tension in the cable is sensed. This can save thousands of dollars of equipment and maintenance costs and hours of downtime.
The self-ejection is accomplished using of a tension cord which is attached at one end to the electrical supply cable and at the other to a special latching pawl used to secure the connector to the inlet on the trailer. The tension cord is shorter than the associated length of electrical cable between the attachment point and connector so the slack in it is removed before the slack in the electrical cable. Once the slack is eliminated, the tension cord will pull the latch open causing the connector to be automatically ejected away from the inlet and trailer.
The self-ejecting option is available for all Multipin devices except the PN and stainless-steel models. It is also helpful in other applications where passing forklifts or other moving equipment could accidently snag and pull a power cable. For more information, see the self-ejecting product section.
Like all our devices, MELTRIC Multipin products are designed with safety features to ensure users are protected from electrical hazards.
MELTRIC Multipin devices are not just for low power control signals; they may also connect power circuits or multiple motors, so safety is an important consideration.
MELTRIC Multipin devices keep users safe in numerous ways:
Most are rated for current interruption and can safely be connected and disconnected under full load.
Receptacle contacts are recessed and are finger safe to prevent unintended access to live parts.
Spring-loaded silver-nickel butt contacts ensure highly conductive and reliable electrical connections. This prevents failures due to contact degradation as is common with brass contacts.
All are available with optional lockout provisions that allow the receptacle lid to be locked in closed position to prevent unauthorized connection. All devices, except the PN models, can also be locked in the mated position to prevent unintended disconnection.
Rated watertightness is automatically achieved upon connection of the plug and receptacle. There are no additional steps required that may be forgotten. This helps prevent electrical failures due to water entry.
