Spring-loaded butt contacts ensure and maintain optimal contact pressure.The impacts of wear and manufacturing variations that affect pin and sleeve contact performance are eliminated.
Silver-nickel and pure silver contact materials provide and maintain excellent conductivity, even in harsh environments like wastewater or chemical plants. Their electrical properties do not degrade over time like the brass contacts used in most other types of plugs and receptacles.

High Amperage plugs and receptacles are not intended to be disconnected under load. MELTRIC devices all include features to ensure this is the case:
PF/PFQ and SP products include electro-mechanical interlocks to ensure the power is off during disconnection or connection.
CS1000 single pole devices have a locking pin which must be disengaged with a special tool, making unsafe disconnection unlikely.
DR400s are equipped with a screw-locking pawl to prevent unintended disconnection under load and with pilot contacts that ensure the circuit is deenergized before the plug can be removed from the receptacle.

The PF/PFQ and DR400 devices have safety shutters that block potential exposure to live parts.
The SP and CS1000 devices are finger safe and thus also prevent unintended access to live parts.
MELTRIC High Amperage devices use a variety of different methods to reduce the effort required to connect and disconnect.
DR400 and single pole SP devices are equipped with drawbar mechanisms that pull the plug into the receptacle and ensure it gets securely latched in place. Both have push button disconnection. The DR400 ejects automatically, while the SP releases and can be easily withdrawn by the user.
PF/PFQ devices connect with rotational motion rather than insertion force. The design of the handle provides significant leverage for rotating the plug and the shape of the contacts provides a ramp to facilitate their engagement. The handles also include handy grab bars to assist in handling and carrying the plug.
The single pole CS1000 has a guide system that allows users to make the connection with a simple rotational motion.
MELTRIC maintains ample stock of components, allowing PF/PFQ and DR400 devices to be built and shipped almost on demand. Common configurations of DR400s are also built to stock allowing same day shipment in some cases.
Many high amperage applications are outdoors and in harsh usage conditions, so effective ingress protection to keep water and dust out plays an important role in maintaining reliable connections. Water ingress is a common cause of problems on competitive products due to failure to properly engage additional watertightness rings required to provide protection.

All MELTRIC High Amperage products are provided with lids or caps for the receptacles and inlet/plug caps are standard on the PF/PFQ and SP and are optional on the DR400 and CS1000.
The mounting space required for a DR400 400 amp receptacle is similar in size to what is required for a 200A device, helping to make panel and equipment mounting easier and more space efficient.
