Benefits of Hazardous Location Plugs and Receptacles
Protection for Most Gas and Dust Environments
MELTRIC offers a wide range of Hazardous Location products that provide connection solutions for most installations in gaseous and dusty environments. With Zone 1 & 2, Zone 21 & 22 and Class 1 and Class 2, Division 2 products available, they cover any environment other than those with an almost continuous presence of the hazard.
MELTRIC's unique contact design eliminates the limitations of brass pin and sleeve contacts and maintains the integrity of the connection over thousands of operations.
Spring-loaded butt contacts ensure and maintain optimal contact pressure. The impacts of wear and manufacturing variations that affect pin and sleeve contact performance are eliminated.
Silver-nickel contact material provides excellent conductivity, even in harsh environments like wastewater or chemical plants, and its electrical properties do not degrade over time like brass.
Spring-assisted terminals automatically compensate for the effects of thermal cycling, vibration, and strand settlement that cause loosening of the connection to the conductor and subsequent problems due to over-heated terminals.
MELTRIC electrical contacts are backed by a 5-year warranty.
A variety of handles, mounting angles, and wall boxes are available for all devices making it easy to configure the product for any application.
With their modular design and assortment of accessories, MELTRIC hazardous location devices can be installed in cord drop, direct motor mounted, flexible conduit, panel mounted, and in-line configurations, as well as in traditional wall box mounted receptacle applications. This simplifies system design and makes it easy to locate a convenience disconnect within sight of the equipment.
Available draw mechanisms and push button disconnection make operation simple.
MELTRIC's North American rated hazardous location devices are all available with optional finger drawplates (20-100A) or standard drawbar mechanisms (150-250A) to help users easily make connections.
Disconnection is even simpler. Once any required locking mechanisms (Zone 2 devices) are freed, disconnection is accomplished just by depressing the pawl. This automatically ejects the plug to the rest position. There is no struggling to remove or connect the plug as is frequently the case with large pin and sleeve devices.
Optional auxiliary contacts help users reduce cost and improve efficiency.
MELTRIC hazardous location devices are available with up to 6 auxiliary contacts allowing users to incorporate pilot, control, and monitoring circuits into their power connections. This eliminates the need to make additional connections and avoids the cost and space requirements of ancillary control connectors.
With ratings up to 100 hp, it is easy to find an appropriate model to serve as a convenient line of sight disconnect for most motor applications.
DXN and DXA devices are suitable for current interruption and, if needed in an emergency, can safely disconnect motor loads up to 20 hp (depending upon the size of the device). Zone 2 devices are not allowed to be disconnected under load, but those in the DS and DSN series are still all horsepower rated for 120V, 208V, 240V, 480V, and 600V systems. Together with their mounting and in-line configuration flexibility, this makes it simple to provide a properly rated plug and play disconnect wherever it is convenient.
Eliminate concerns over unauthorized connections with available options and accessories.
Like any hazardous location rated device, MELTRIC hazardous location devices naturally provide protection against use that could spark an explosion.
MELTRIC Zone 1 rated DXN and DXA series are engineered to snuff out arcing from disconnection under load before it can reach a volume of gas that would pose an explosion hazard. Even if inadvertently disconnected under load, there is no explosion hazard.
Zone 2 devices have a screw locking pawl that requires users to back out the screw with an Allen wrench before being able to disconnect the device. This prevents accidental disconnections that could be made without proper thought and following of deenergization procedures.
In some applications it is beneficial to provide additional protection against unauthorized disconnection. MELTRIC makes it easy. All Zone 2 devices are equipped with a Padlock Pawl that can be used to pad-lock the plug and receptacle together in the connected position. This may be done directly with a 5/16” shank lock or with an available MELTRIC locking pin customer lock. The padlock pawl is also available on the DXN and DXA series devices as an option.
